Reader Question:

What do you order for take-out from a Chinese restuarant? Do you get the same thing each time or do you alternate between favorites or work your way down the menu?

Thanks!!

Umm....hard question. I have a few favorites that I go to again and again: Princess Chicken (similar to Kung Pow, but not fried and very hot!) and Spicy Garlic Tofu.

My indecision makes me a huge fan of Chinese buffets.

I get orange chicken, every time. I like other things, but I love orange chicken.

I go back and forth. Sometimes I am more adventurous and get something I've never had before. But if I am very hungry and want something reliable, I get something I know is good (which varies depending on which Chinese place it is).

It depends on the place. If the restaurant is known quantity, I'll vary up my selection a bit. Otherwise I stick to various chicken dishes: curry, hunan, schezuan, chicken w/ garlic sauce, etc. Or lo mein, because it's harder (though not impossible) to screw it up.

Chicken and broccoli. That's probably lame, but I love broccoli at a Chinese restaurant! Also, if I didn't get that I'd surely order General Tso's and that cannot be good for me!

Depends on the mood. I usually switch up the entrees but always get the same dim sums.

I like to order appetizers and noodles to change things up and try new things. And there is always a quart of wonton soup in there. ALways.

I wish I were brave enough to be more varied, but I'm just not. Things I can't easily identify scare me. So I usually order lemon chicken, beef and broccoli or cashew chicken.

Depends on which of two restaurants I'm at - it's either spicy szechaun beef or beef & broccoli with water chestnuts.
