Downtown? Hmm, might try Joss. I haven't been to the B-more location yet, but the Annapolis one had at least a fair amount of non-sushi Japanese on the menu. Get the spring roll. It's amazing.
Also, the food blog at the Sun did sushi for their top 10 tuesday a few weeks back:
my favorite places for sushi are both in towson and literally blocks away from each other on the same street. 1. sushi hana - fair prices, big portions and a full sheet menu with the different types they have plus there's always specials with ones not listed 2. kyodai - the rotating sushi bar. you can pick and choose as you see fit and if you want something you don't see, they'll make it for you. plus, it's fun to have everything at your fingertips.
i hear ra sushi is wonderful but i haven't been able to make it downtown in a while.
hope this helps! Marissa UGC Wrangler for b bthesite.com
For me, Minato has both great sushi and a wide range of non-sushi stuff. n actually, there are few sushi places I can think of that don't have lots of non-sushi offerings. It might be more instructive to list those that don't offer much more than sushi. Kyodai is the first that comes to mind.sure they have lots of nice sushi offerings, but really, their specialty is sushi and I've rarely found much else there. Also I don't think the sushi place at Belvedere Square has anything more than sushi, sashimi and rolls.
Thanks for the help! My father-in-law was in town and while we wanted sushi, we also wanted some good non sushi choices for him. We ended up trying My Thai and we were pleased/
One of my favorite places is a hidden gem. It is in the bottom of the building at 201 North Charles St. At first glance it looks like a lunch deli, but go over to the sushi bar and they really know their stuff. I think it's called Sushi Geisha.

Try My Thai in Mt. Vernon! They serve sushi and Thai food and have very interesting and daring drinks. Let me know how it goes!
The Best Sushi ever is at Sushi Sono in Columbia.

Anon-we went there once too! It was amazing!
Probably a bit late, but Chiu's next to Whole Foods has two seperate menus - one sushi, one non. Both are extensive.
