A new favorite apple this season is the Honeycrisp. I had been on the lookout for them all season and just was able to snatch some up at my local Safeway. I've heard they've been sighted at the Farmer's Market but let's just say it is hard for us to get anywhere before noon on a Sunday. They are a crisp, tart yet sweet apple (it is a cross between the Macoun and Honeygold) that is delicious to eat out of hand (I like mine with a bit of sharp cheddar) or in baked goods. They are apparently a hard variety to grow which explains the difficulty in hunting them down. Here is a list of growers that have the apples. Some even take orders before the season!
